We're almost all here...

After a full day of traveling (we left for Houston at 11AM yesterday and I'm typing this at 1PM Texas time), we just finished for our first meal in France (pre-oredered and delivered to our doorstep--great move). Here are some good little tidbits from our day today:

1. Almost drove over my iPhone on the way out. I had it on my suitcase and Mary Grace didn't see it and went to load my suitcase. We were headed to the interstate when I noticed I didn't have it. We went back to my house drove into the driveway again and then pulled out of the driveway before we realized it was sitting in the driveway. That's three chances to run over it and it survived all three! If my phone was a cat, it'd only have 6 more lives to go! Also, we believe this to be a good omen for the rest of the trip. Stay tuned...

2. I haven't flown on a long international flight since 1999. Maybe I don't remember, but things certainly seem to have improved. We had 2...count them 2 hot meals on our 8 hour flight from Houston to Amsterdam and they have these individual TVs these days w/ all this music, movies, and games loaded on them! It was so hard to sleep when I knew I had all that cool stuff to watch. I ended up watching Black Swan, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger and about 20 minutes of Gnomeo and Juliet (Mel--I think you'll love this!). I also played some WWTBAM and tried to learn some French. Mary Grace sort of figured out the technology enough to make it through The King's Speech restarting it 4 times including one time w/ Arabic subtitles. I am already plotting my movie viewing on the way back. The way I see it, the more movies I get to see, the cheaper my ticket becomes! We also got hot towels and free wine!

3. All is going well (remember that omen?) until we wait and wait and wait some more for our bags once we arrive in Toulouse. But, after being at the airport an hour, we depart with no bags (that's right they lost both of our bags). However, KLM gives us each a 100 euro allowance to buy some clothes/supplies for the next few days AND gives us a fairly useless toiletry kit (a whole separate conversation). So, highlight of this story: we got to do some free shopping. Bad news: Luggage is supposed to be on its way now (it got stuck in Amsterdam), but KLM is struggling with finding our location since there is not a real street address. We'll let you know if we ever get our bags. :) But, remember the phone did not get run over.

Well, that's enough for now. I'm sure Mary Grace will have stories later (our search for this little place, her love for the Amsterdam airport, our shopping trip, etc.). BUT, now it's time for us to eat our dessert: strawberry meringue roulade with strawberry coulis and fresh strawberries. :)

Seems pretty generous--100E until you get your bags, if you actually do get the bags back. How crazy that you both lost yours. It does remind me that we need to pack extra clothes in our carry on bags for our trip this weekend, though.

That house looks gorgeous! I'm so sad I couldn't come meet you there this week!!! Enjoying your blog though, as always. Awesome story about your phone - I did the same thing once with mine in a driveway and could never believe I hadn't hit it with my car (or anybody else with their cars, as several other people had driven down the driveway while my phone was in it).
