Saint-Cirq-Lapopie a.k.a. Georgetown, TX

Over the last few days as we've relaxed in our medieval village, Mary Grace and I have been noticing an uncanny resemblance to a town we call home, Georgetown, TX. Let me elaborate.

1. As we stroll the streets of the small town, we are greeted by everyone (old and young, man and woman) by "Bonjour!" This is not unlike a stroll through the square of Georgetown (even at Wal-Mart) where everybody knows your name or acts as if they do. Friendly folks all around.

2. Lots of retired folks similar to the Sun City folk appearing throughout Georgetown.

3. We went to the caves the other day just outside Saint Cirq Lapopie just as if we had taken a jaunt to Inner Space Caverns just outside Georgetown.

4. The other day we drove 30 minutes to the "city" of Cahors. Just like in Georgetown we often need to dive 30 minutes to get to the "city" of Austin.

5. Have you ever tried to buy something from a store on a Monday in Saint-Cirq-Lapopie? It reminds me of a Sunday in Georgetown--where you can't eat out nor can you buy liquor.

6. Georgetown has the poppy festival. Saint-Cirq-Lapopie must also have one because we see fields of them everywhere!

The thing that finally snapped back us to reality this evening was the sudden downpour that occurred during dinner. We haven't seen such rain in Georgetown in many months.

Georgetown, TX, sounds like a friendly town. My roots go back to Georgetown, OH, which is small farm town. Was bound to happen you'd get some rain. Continuer à profiter de vos aventures en France.
