A Change of Pace: Mystic, CT

Yesterday we arrived in Mystic, CT for a 24 hour stay. I wanted to pick up a new state (#34 for me) and Mystic was one of the Amtrak stops, so we decided to stay there for a day. After picking up the rental car we had lunch at this fabulous little restaurant called Azu on the main drag in Mystic. We checked out some of the stores and then went to check in to our hotel. After check-in we took about 30 minute naps and then headed to the Mystic Seaport. I recently discovered this place is in the 1000 Places to See Before You Die book. Well, we saw it. We read about what was inside and had no desire to pay the $25ish entry fee, so we just looked at it from the outside. Then, we went over to the Old Mystic Village Shops and had much more fun looking at all the cute little trinkets. After that we took a little jaunt over to Stonington, CT and walked down their main strip to an old lighthouse and a little beach area. It was pleasant to see the NE coast and spend a few minutes there. After that we returned to Mystic and had dinner at a restaurant whose building has been there since 1794. We returned to our hotel around 8 and I was asleep by 10. Felt so good to get some good sleep! We even took our time getting ready this morning and didn't leave the hotel until 10:30.

We stopped and got pics in front of Mystic Pizza (made famous by the movie w/ Julia Roberts) and then caught our 11:08 train to Boston. I don't have a single pic from Mystic. Mom took them all. So, I'll hook her camera up tonight and upload some.
